Alih Jey is a Grammy-nominated Dominican singer, songwriter, and producer known for her bilingual, genre-defying blend of rock, Latin, indie, and pop. She is the only Dominican artist ever nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Rock Solo Vocal Album for her album Necia. Her debut single, “It’s Ok,” reached No. 16 on the Billboard Latin charts, and her music has earned praise from Billboard, KCRW, and NPR.
A BMI Award-winning songwriter, Alih has written for artists including Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Wisin, Gloria Trevi, Jessica Simpson, David Bisbal, Paulina Rubio, Jarina De Marco, Dulce María, Ednita Nazario, Maité Perroni, Los Rakas, and more. In 2016, she received a BMI Award for co-writing Ricky Martin’s hit single “Adrenalina (Spanglish).” Her music has also been featured extensively across film and television, with placements including Target’s Hispanic Heritage campaign, La Banda, Discovery Kids, STARZ’s Vida, Inconceivable, The Riveras, La Voz Kids, Bad Girls Club, Fuller House, and Rick and Morty.
Throughout her career, Alih has toured in support of Paulina Rubio, Bacilos, and Raul Malo, and has shared the stage with artists including Carlos Vives, Gloria Estefan, Ximena Sariñana, Gloria Trevi, Aleks Syntek, and Alejandra Guzmán. Her performances have taken her to SXSW, LAMC, Dominicana Moda, The Grammy Music Series, Premios Soberano, LALIFF, Hola México Film Festival, and The Tonight Show. More recently, she has performed at the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Phil alongside artists including Chris Martin, Beck, and Natalia Lafourcade, as well as performing alongside Colombian superstar Carlos Vives.
Alih’s album Soy De Peña, created in collaboration with Cuñao, is a tribute to her father, Aníbal De Peña, an enduring icon in Dominican music history. Its first single, “Mi Debilidad,” premiered on KCRW’s Pan Caliente and was included in NPR’s Alt.Latino playlist following a glowing review. Alih toured extensively in the Dominican Republic around the release, performing 25 shows and culminating in a sold-out performance at the historic Casa de Teatro. The video for “Mi Debilidad” went on to win Best Video at the Indie Dominican Awards in 2020.
Her catalog spans more than two decades, beginning with Alih Jey (2001) and Gotas de Piel (2004), both released through Universal Music, followed by Necia (2007), Tarte (2011), Car Trouble (2014), and Soy De Peña (2019), produced by Cameron Bartolini in collaboration with Cuñao. Since Soy De Peña, Alih has continued to release new music, further expanding the eclectic sound that has defined her career.
Alih’s work continues to reach new audiences across music, film, and culture. Her music has been featured by Putumayo, and her song “Keep On Moving” was selected as the closing theme for the Tribeca-premiered documentary It’s Dorothy!. Billboard has also recognized Alih as one of the Latina producers and songwriters blazing new paths for women in music.
Currently based in Los Angeles, Alih continues to write, produce, perform, and expand a body of work rooted in her Dominican heritage while moving fluidly across rock, Latin, indie, electronic, and pop music.
